TGA founder remembers Game Informer: a true legend in the industry
The glory days of Game Informer magazine
Game Awards founder Geoff Keighley recently tweeted in memory of Game Informer magazine, praising its influence in the gaming industry.
The cover of Game Informer had unparalleled influence that year. Game makers would even forgo major awards shows to be on the cover of GI in a few months. When the first Red Dead Redemption failed to appear on the cover of GI, Rockstar bought advertising space for the entire cover.
The legends of GI magazine are countless. For example, at one E3 show, GI had Activision cancel Tony Hawk Dungeon just because it would be on the next cover.
GI Magazine is an indispensable part of the gaming industry, and its cover bears witness to the development of the gaming industry. Although the magazine has ceased publication, its legacy and contribution to gaming culture will always be remembered.
